When I heard about McCain's Vice Presidential pick, my chief reaction was "Huh."

What do you think about McCain's choice of Sarah Palin?

1) Was pushing back on the party leaders (i.e., Rove) and the drive to have ol' Mitt as his running mate - reactionary move (theory 1)

2) Was seeking to sneak some of the Hillary/woman vote away from the Dems (theory 2)

3) Wanted to sew up the pro-gun, anti-gay, pro-life folks in a single slam dunk (theory 3)

4) Wanted to regain some of his maverick status (theory 4)

Or elements of all listed above.

Erik,

I think you're right on the button with theories 2, 3 and 4...and likely #1, too.

I don't think he thought it through...sounds from descriptions like he went with his gut (and it may prove to be a big mistake).
