Reading the Weather
by Laura J Morefield
The rain arrived so
sudden came down so hard
and fast last night like
an insistent lover gone too long
and impatient
so impatient to pour himself nook
by nook cranny by
cranny into every thirsty parched
root of her.
The lazy dawn lightens the sky from
black to blue to blushing gray
the ground
still drinking the love it could not
contain.
